Friends, I have been remiss in posting timely updates on the situation regarding the legality of home birth in New York. I just received an email from my homebirthing friend, Nancy, alerting me that a very important piece of legislation is actually coming up for vote today at 11:30 am! The Midwifery Modernization Act, if passed, will eliminate the need for midwives to have Written Practice Agreements with MD's, therefore enabling them to freely attend to their clients without having to bow to their competitors. I am sorry to be posting this at the last minute, but if you can take a moment to call one or more of the following lawmakers to express your support of the MMA, that would be a huge help!
Thank you for supporting a woman's right to give birth where she chooses, with the care provider she prefers!

Even though I live in another country thank you for all the work you do. I feel inspired by your words and deeds in helping women have a choice about how they wish to birth - something that seems so logical. I thought you might find this article interesting, a little out of date but still relevant.

Fingers crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just my computer but I can't see the last few numbers of the phone numbers you listed. Hoping the MMA passes! When will we find out?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for pointing that out, Anon! It was not your computer, but in fact a problem on my end that resulted in the chopping off of the numbers. So sorry about that. Hopefully I have fixed it. I'll let you know when I find out more about the status of the legislation. Thanks for your concern!
